India Launches First Jammu-Srinagar Direct Train
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off India's first direct Jammu-Srinagar train service, completing a high-altitude rail link through the Himalayas. The route gives Kashmir a reliable all-weather connection to the rest of India, lowering freight costs and reducing dependence on landslide-prone roads.
